Report: ABC poised for job cuts

Up to 100 jobs expected to go in new ABC structure.

The ABC is expected to announce as many as 100 job cuts today, according to Guardian Australia.

The publication reports some ABC staff have been notified of meetings with management ahead of its major internal restructure announced last month.

The cuts are the first mass job losses at the corporation since 2020 when the ABC cut 250 staff across news, entertainment and regional divisions.

A major restructure of ABC was announced last month in which Chris Oliver-Taylor to oversee new ABC Content division with Justin Stevens as News boss, including regional bureaux.

Anderson foreshadowed the restructure would lead to redundancies in both management and staff ranks.

“Change is never easy,” Managing Director David Anderson said in May. “Clearly this restructure impacts some of our leaders. Where this occurs, we will seek to redeploy as many affected employees as possible. But we expect there will be some redundancies and consultation with those leaders who are impacted is under way.”’

The new stucture takes effect from July 1st.

Last week ABC also announced a new 5 Year Plan, diverting resources away from traditional broadcasting towards improving digital platforms ABC iview, ABC Listen and ABC News.

ABC declined to comment.
